A few things to share

HOW TO GET BACK TO THE REAL SPIRIT OF THE HOLIDAYS

  • Spend time with someone you love.
  • Forgive a person that has hurt you.
  • Remember your innocence.
  • Help another in need.
  • Count your blessings.
  • Say a prayer when actions won't help.
  • Say you're sorry.
  • Be patient with sales clerks, slow lines and other frustrated customers.
  • Make kindness a priority.
  • Give a gift for no other reason than to make another smile.
  • Wear something out of the ordinary that makes you feel magical and amazing.
  • Write a letter to a long lost friend.
  • Plant a tree.
  • Clean out your closets and give the extras away to a homeless shelter.
  • Tithe more than you intended to your local charity.
  • Have faith in others.
  • Keep a promise.
  • Nurture yourself.
  • Smile.
  • Throw a party for all the people that have supported you over the years as your way of saying "Thank you."
  • Feed the hungry.
  • Dance.
  • Laugh more than you think you should at jokes that aren't usually funny.
  • Make someone feel special.
  • Kiss under the mistletoe.
  • Take a photo with Santa.
  • Light a candle to remind yourself of the light you are to the world.
  • Write a list or make a photo collage of your dreams, desires and aspirations for next year.
  • Be willing to be awed and inspired.
  • Decide to believe in yourself.
  • Know that anything is possible.
  • Sing at the top of your lungs.
  • Relish each moment of life.
  • Wish everyone you meet Happy Holidays and mean it.
  • Be delighted.

Isn't it amazing that George Carlin - comedian of the 70's and 80's - could write something so very eloquent...and so appropriate.

A Message by George Carlin:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider
Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. we have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgement, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. We drink too much, smore to omuch, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We multiplied or possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up thei air, but polluted the soul, we've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever but we communicate less and less. These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete... Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side. Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent. Remember, to say, 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. - George Carlin

December 23rd 2008 Update

About 6-8 weeks ago I kept on getting sick, not enough to be bed ridden but enough to make me not function 100%. I could not put a finger on it, just a feeling of being unwell, headaches, nausea. Nothing I did cured whatever ailed me.

I finally succumbed and went to the doctor and had to take a barrage of blood tests mainly to check if I was iron deficient, diabetic, had under active thyroid, under active supral renal gland, depression, lymphoma.

So today I found out that my iron count is >3 which is the lowest the doctor had ever seen anyone go to, three months ago I was at 7. I am also deficient in vitamin D (sunlight) so I had better go and sit in the sun for a few minutes a day.

Whew what a relief that was to finally put a name to it.

The girls arrived yesterday and I am so happy, haven't seen them since October, they're always good to have around but being unwell isn't helping me as I can't really go out for fear of collapsing as I constantly feel light headed with this dull headache throbbing constanly.

Well it's that time of the year again that I sometimes look forward to and sometimes I don't, dont ask me why...it's called "Birthday" and that's next Saturday. I will be spending it down in -opps not going to give the game away right now in case the surprise gets sprung, so instead I'll share some of the gorgeous birthday cards I have received so far.

First one came from Rikki Showell in Launceston, she is an amazing woman and is always the first to remember one's birthday, I am really impressed. Thanks Rikki.

The others came from MSG the Monday stamping group I attend, which was yesterday, they gave me a lovely fruit topped cake that was Ellen Clarke's idea, thanks Ellen. I always feel emotional when someone sings happy birthday to me and yesterday was no exception and I was tongue tied.

ok I can just see that this birthday will be an extended one having started a week early LOL so I will post more, today is a public holiday in Canberra to celebrate Melbourne Cup day, it is the only state outside of Victoria that has today as a public holiday, suits us fine !!! Would have loved to have been in Melbourne and celebrated it at Peter Z's house in Fern Tree Gully as we usually did the last few years...ah well blame Michael for moving us away.

Sympathy Card

Yesterday I got an early morning call from the US, one that you don't want to get and was told that a close family member had passed away. My nature is such that I go into shock but into an organisation shock and the first thing that came to my mind was to make a sympathy card.

The last time a very close family member passed away was my precious grandpa on my mother's side and I was 5 years old.

I have not had to make a sympathy card for a close family member so I wanted this one to be special being that it was my husband's family so I sent out an SOS to my online groups and within 12 hours they came up with some gorgeous ideas for me that I will take in and CASE when the need arises.

I came up with a few designs and now I am confused about which one to use. The background idea was shown to me by Pru at MSG which I love. The stand alone card designs were CASED from Rikki Showell and is one of my favourite construction cards. Thats frost on the table that you can see slowly melting, it was still hard to touch so I could not wipe it off, photos were taken at 7.30am today.

Thanks go to the following people who kindly shared their own cards and ideas with me Evelyn Spikes, Hitomi Nakatane, Caroline Cassidy, Tanya Kitto, Kathie Hockley, Barb Dare, Kaz1969, Shell B, Judy Carberry, Natalie Nyistor, Vicki Dean, Natalie Alston, Lana Murray, Trish Wood, Andrea Buckland, Margaret Ashby, Laisie Murphy, Doreen Worth, Carolyn (Pilliga Princess), Darlene Grob and Jan (Inkerzaway).

With all the ideas I have I will go away and make more sympathy cards which really aren't sympathy cards but sympathy appropriate and can be used everyday.

Thank you once again to each and everyone of you for your help.
Love and hugs
Bridget

ESAD-SU Challenge Make it Monday # 10 September 15th 2008

Makeesha Byl sent this challenge to an online SU group and I took the bait. They are great and easy to make.

Arrrggghhh I need to try and work this new digital camera of mine so it will take good photos, any hints are welcomed LOL.

Third try lucky in trying to write what I used to do these.

On Whisper White Cardstock I used stamps from the Friendship Blooms and One of a Kind stamp sets and stamped using the Pretty in Pink and Purely Pomegranate inkpads, then I cut out the flower using the Boho Blossoms Punch and sprinkled Dazzling Diamonds Glitter over the smallest of the flowers using glue stick to adhere it.

Run on over to Makeesha's website (you can click on her name up above and it will take you to her website) for the full tutorial.

p.s. just moving my creations over from my old blog

Ribbon Storage

I had a dilemma with how to store my ribbons, I saw this gadget I had that is made to hold paper towels and I had two so I took one next door and had John cut part of it off and voila!!!!!!!!I have a ribbon holder that is portable around the house

Stampin Up

An exciting adventure for me to move into.

I have met some wonderful ladies and enjoy using the products so why not move onto the next phase of helping others enjoy it as well.

The following cards were made at Leilani's Stamp-a-stack this month, 30 cards in all made by the Secret Garden pack and Pretties Kit, I still have 13 to do so far. It's amazing what you can get out of one pack and some accessories.

P.S. just moving over my creations from an old blog
