Christmas tag

My friend Celina and I got together one day and created this delightful tag for Christmas, I love how we used punches to make the bird, yes it is a bird with wings, at first it looks like someone with a top hat and a high collar, believe me its a bird hahahaha

WOYWW # 282 A Wedding Layout for Sarah and David

This is my desk this week, all cleared of any evidence of a secret project. I had to look at my stash of stuff I had bought and hadn't looked at before I forgot I owned them LOL. Dies, stamp from Judikins, daubers and more daubers and cases specially made for daubers-I died and went to heaven when I knew there was a dauber case-thanks to Lana in Canberra who alerted me to them. The orange bin is still there and those Zentangles which I can use as coasters as I have laminated them LOL. I call this my clean desk area.
This is a wider view of both my desks, the one close to the camera is the dirty area where I spray, daub, glue, then I take what I am working on to the far table where the green craft mat is and is where I ds tapestuff together,I photograph as it has a great natural light from the fluorescent tube above. Mr Crafty's desk can be seen at the far end, nice and neat and tidy for now.

Here is a layout I made for my cousin Sarah's wedding, isn't she a beautiful bride. I need to do more layouts. It was quite enjoyable to design.

My weekend was filled with disasters, first my Iphone 4 died at precisely 3.30am on Sunday morning, I had set my alarm to get up at 3.30am, I woke up at 3.29 and tried to shut the alarm off and the phone just froze. Then hubby did an update on my computer and I lost everything I had saved on the hard drive-lesson learnt- do not save onto hard drive all my hardwork. It's strange how something like this can make you sick in the pit of your stomach.  All my photos, recipes, favourite links etc etc all gone.

This is tree grape or Jaboticaba, my neighbour has a tree and he gave me some to make jam. It is such an exquisite fruit that grows on tree trunks.

WOYWW #281

This is the opposite side of my work area that I showed last week on WOYWW #280

This is what I call my storage area, but every area in my craft room is storage hahahaha. On the desk are the wedding invitations I was commissioned to do last year. The poor lady had a surprise pregnancy so the wedding has been pushed back. This table has to be neat and clean for the wedding invites, no inks or powders near it so thats why its on the opposite side to the messy table hahaha

The shelves hold flowers, beads, lumieres and odds and sods.

T for Tuesday - Gold Coast Australia

We decided to go down the coast to our favourite holiday place which was an hour away from home, Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. Its called the Theme Park Capital of Australia because the put all the theme parks there. Movieworld, Dreamworld - the home of Big Brother, Sea World, Wet n Wild, Whitewater World. The reason for this is the climate is awesome and there is more sunshine in this state for longer during the year and its just a tourist and holiday destination.

The surfboard above is advertising the Commonwealth games to be held there in 2018
This is the view from the seaside boardwalk looking inland
 The sand and seaside view
Some kind tourist offered to take our photo as I was snapping photos on my ipad, I kindly obliged, we didnt really want our photo taken but as they offered so nicely we said yes and took their photo as well LOL
 Some of the gorgeous hotels

We ended up going to a theme park, Sea-world, Michael has never been to ours and it's one of the nicest I've seen in Australia, not that there are many.
The two large penguins just stood there, we couldn't tell if they were staring at us staring at them or sleeping standing up. the one sitting down on the stones is looking after its egg. One penguin was very funny, he kept stealing stones from another grate to take to his wife's grate and she already had too much. He kept getting barked at by the occupant.
 A baby Stingray
 !!!!Shark!!!!
 Tiger Shark
The seal show with Buddy, he was very funny and clever.
He barked, clapped and carried stuff out  on que
The Dolphin show, this photo showed 2 dolphins holding their trainer aloft, they are very powerful animals and did summersaults and swam so fast around the water arena.
The last show was the power seadoos, they did flips and summersalts and triple turns, very scary

A day well spent, we bought a season pass to three parks so we can go back as many times as we want. Our ticket takes us into Seaworld, Wet n Wild and Movieworld, it was $10 cheaper than buying a day pass, you'd be mad not to buy the season pass if you lived here.

I love living near all our holiday spots that we are able to drive to for a day or a weekend to enjoy.
It truly is Queensland the Sunshine state. I am already getting a nice tan just from standing outside hanging out the clothes.

EDITED 22Oct2014: Julia commented on why I took photos with my ipad and not my normal DSLRs. Well we needed my Ipad for directions and googling places so it was the Ipad Air that won out and it takes pretty amazing photos

WOYWW #280

A rare view of my desk, because I removed all evidence of 'secret projects'.
There is a link to what I was doing the secret project below,
but I still can't show you what I made until I am allowed.

So my desk consists of an orange Ikea waste basket.
My friend Sandra sent me a Zen-tangle link that was brilliant, that is what you can see on my desk at the top right hand corner. I printed them out for future reference when I feel the need to Tangle.
Love her storage box that she takes away to tangle with.
Some Stampendous stamps I got to play with.
Mr Crafty thinks I have an obsession with clocks, I have to have a clock near me wherever I am working or sitting, I always have the need to see what time it is.
Daubers in their box
ImagineCrafts/Tsukineko All Purpose Inks that I am experimenting with.
Heartfelt Creation flowers I was stamping up and playing around with.
Spellbinders die that I had ordered months ago and finally arrived.
ImagineCrafts/Tsukineko Neon Radiant Ink and Delicata Ink that I won in ImagineCrafts Blog Hop. Below is the rest of the prizes, I was shocked when I was contacted by John Peterson to say I had won.
I shared some exciting news last Thursday, you can read it HERE. The next instalment of that exciting news will be on November 12th if I get through the final round.

T for Tuesday- Mango Kuchela and Achar

Gorgeous humongous mangoes ready to make Indian pickle,
they were $4 each and to die for, well worth the money
This is called Kuchela, I love this and always had my mum make it for me before we moved to Queensland. The mangoes here are abundant because of the tropical weather.
This mango is sunning to get it dried ready to make Achar. I make mine the traditional way. Pickles produced in traditional method contain Lactobacillus, produced by fermentation in brine (salt and water). (never knew that!).

So these are two different ways I like to eat them. If you'd like to make them here are the recipes"

Kuchela

Peel about 4 large mangoes and grate on medium hole.
Add 3 heaped tsp salt and mix through. Let stand for 1 hr in a colander which is placed in a bowl or sink, so liquid from mango drips through. Push mango into sieve/colander.
Heat up a bottle of mustard oil and let stand.
In a dry fry pan, heat up 1 tbsp cumin seeds, 1 tbsp black mustard seeds, 1tsp fenugreek, 1 tsp clove, 1 tsp fennel. Toss regularly or stir until just turning brown. Remove into a bowl and let stand. Add 1 tbsp mustard oil to fry pan and heat, Add 1 whole head of crushed garlic and fry until it starts to brown.
Add the garlic and spices and 3 tbsp commercial Achar mix to the grated mango and mix through. Spoon into sterilised bottles until ¾ full, add heated mustard oil to fill bottle. Place lid and store in refrigerator.

Mango Pickle

Cut up 4 mangoes into bite size cubes.
Add 3 heaped tsp salt and mix through.
Place onto trays and dry in the sun for a day or you can put it into
the oven at a very low temperature for 1 hour.

Add 1 tbsp mustard oil to fry pan and heat,
Add 1 whole head of crushed garlic and fry until it starts to brown.
Add spices and garlic and 3 tbsp commercial Achar mix to mango and mix through.
Place mangoes into sterilised bottles until ¾ full, add heated mustard oil to fill bottle. Place lid and store in a cool dry place.

Now one eats this with Tea, a different kind of tea,
In England they call dinner Tea which is confusing, which is what Australians have adopted having ancestors who originated from England as convicts.

I shared some exciting news last Thursday, you can read all about it HERE, the next instalment of that exciting news will be on November 12th if I get through the 1st Round.

WOYWW #278 Ribbon Storage

Print Friendly and PDF
A real eyesore to an OCD person hahahaha

Answers to last weeks questions from commenters: Someone asked if I had any other ribbon other than green and white after last weeks desk post. So I thought I'd show you some of the ribbons I have unpacked so far.

Belinda also asked if I could reach the drawers in front of my desk and yes I can when I move the boxes between the tables and the shelving that are still to be unpacked hahahaha.

Those dowling sticks were made by my friend Sandra's friend. I've commissioned hubby to make me one with two square ends so I can lie it down on my desk with ribbons I use at the moment.

Cook books can be seen. Non slip sheets ready to stick on tiles for my photographic studio. Lace for any project. Dummy books. Glue sticks, my favourite go to adhesive for 3D projects. Blue and Red material for photographic props. Knitting needles. Empty corned beef tins ready for any project.  Glad wrap cores saved for a rainy day project.
