T for Tuesday Camping Rainbow Beach

Last week someone asked if my header photo was new, yes it is.
I will be show casing my collection of postcards each week so you can enjoy it with me.

I don't know whose blog I opened up that has a bell tinkling in it but when I heard it I went outside to the postbox to see who was ringing the bell hahahaha

During the Easter break hubby and I went away camping to Rainbow Beach which is 3 hours north of where we live. We had heard about it from various friends that it was a beautiful place and it sure was. This was our very sparse campsite as I only wanted to take the car and not the trailer. The weather man threatened storms but we only got some passing showers and heavy rain for the first 2 days and the it was glorious-well until the midgies started to bite us.

Here's how to protect yourself from Midges/sandflies
Biting Midges in Brisbane

This was the view from our tent of the lake.  We would have loved to visit more surrounding areas but you need a 4X4 as its all sandy and reachable by 4 wheel drive only.

Day 1 of the Midgie bites I got on the day we packed up. We left a day earlier to come home as I couldn't stand being bitten anymore. The itching was incredible.

Day 4 I don't know if these were there on day 1 as it wasn't itchy but day 4 and it was angry large welts
These bites disappeared on day 2 and appeared again on day 4. I finally put some eczema cream on it that I had and the relief from itching was amazing. I had been putting on a mixture of baby oil and tea tea which was great as well. The doctor said that people who take multivitamins or those vitamin B types don't get bitten as the insects don't like that-guess what I'll be taking for the rest of my life now LOL

We went to the Surf Life club one evening for dinner and got a lemonade for Michael and a Lemon Lime Bitters for me-the only alcoholic drink I can drink by choice.

For those of you following my Postcrossing Posts, you can see my first postcard that arrived yesterday HERE

  5. You got a lot packed in your car and your camping looked like it had all the comforts of home. EXCEPT for the bug bites, that is. They look painful. I call them sand fleas and I was bitten one time when I was harvesting blackberries with a friend. You are right that they hurt and itch. I'm glad you found a remedy!

Thanks for sharing your lovely campsite and tea with us for T this Tuesday.

  6. Ah - those bites look terrible - if you can stand the pong, fresh cut onion rubbed on them kills the itch straight up :-)

  8. Goodness sakes Bridget! Those bites look painful and make me want to scratch all over. We always take a "critter" replant with us, when camped in such an area. Now the view, from your tent was magnificent!

Thanks for visiting my blog earlier, since I'm half a world away it is always earlier, or I'm late....LOL
    Happy T-day
