T for Tuesday Camping Rainbow Beach

Last week someone asked if my header photo was new, yes it is.
I will be show casing my collection of postcards each week so you can enjoy it with me.

I don't know whose blog I opened up that has a bell tinkling in it but when I heard it I went outside to the postbox to see who was ringing the bell hahahaha

During the Easter break hubby and I went away camping to Rainbow Beach which is 3 hours north of where we live. We had heard about it from various friends that it was a beautiful place and it sure was. This was our very sparse campsite as I only wanted to take the car and not the trailer. The weather man threatened storms but we only got some passing showers and heavy rain for the first 2 days and the it was glorious-well until the midgies started to bite us.

Here's how to protect yourself from Midges/sandflies
Biting Midges in Brisbane

This was the view from our tent of the lake.  We would have loved to visit more surrounding areas but you need a 4X4 as its all sandy and reachable by 4 wheel drive only.

Day 1 of the Midgie bites I got on the day we packed up. We left a day earlier to come home as I couldn't stand being bitten anymore. The itching was incredible.

Day 4 I don't know if these were there on day 1 as it wasn't itchy but day 4 and it was angry large welts
These bites disappeared on day 2 and appeared again on day 4. I finally put some eczema cream on it that I had and the relief from itching was amazing. I had been putting on a mixture of baby oil and tea tea which was great as well. The doctor said that people who take multivitamins or those vitamin B types don't get bitten as the insects don't like that-guess what I'll be taking for the rest of my life now LOL

We went to the Surf Life club one evening for dinner and got a lemonade for Michael and a Lemon Lime Bitters for me-the only alcoholic drink I can drink by choice.

For those of you following my Postcrossing Posts, you can see my first postcard that arrived yesterday HERE

Joining Elizabeth and Bluebeard for T for Tuesday

  1. Oh you poor thing, midges are the devils own! Well, at least you know how to protect yourself and that means you can go back to the beauty spot.....at some stage!

  2. What a beautiful spot to camp, but ohh dear, this bites look so irritating. I'm glad the cream helped, and thanks for tips to avoid the bites, hopefully, in the future. Happy T Day :D

  3. oooh how awful for you! Too bad those pesky bugs had to ruin a nice camping weekend-it looks like a beautiful spot. Love the postcard with the adorable koala. Happy T day!

  4. I'm hoping to go camping this summer, only without the biting bugs. But I'll stock up on your remedies just in case.

  5. You got a lot packed in your car and your camping looked like it had all the comforts of home. EXCEPT for the bug bites, that is. They look painful. I call them sand fleas and I was bitten one time when I was harvesting blackberries with a friend. You are right that they hurt and itch. I'm glad you found a remedy!

Thanks for sharing your lovely campsite and tea with us for T this Tuesday.

  6. Ah - those bites look terrible - if you can stand the pong, fresh cut onion rubbed on them kills the itch straight up :-)

  7. It looks so pretty! But sometimes the biting bugs can make us miserable even in the midst of the beauty. I'm glad you've had a remedy shared with you that'll spare you this problem. Happy T Tuesday! :)

  8. Goodness sakes Bridget! Those bites look painful and make me want to scratch all over. We always take a "critter" replant with us, when camped in such an area. Now the view, from your tent was magnificent!

Thanks for visiting my blog earlier, since I'm half a world away it is always earlier, or I'm late....LOL
    Happy T-day

  9. Your camp looked great...says the girl who doesn't camp...but those bite are awful!!!!
Looking forward to seeing your postcard collection.
    Happy T day

  10. Hello and Happy T Day! Love your camp set up, nice and shady and neat. The view is beautiful but not those bites, sorry they got you. Good that you found something to help with the itch, I hate bug bites, such a pain they can be. Nice drinks to share today.

  11. Yikes looks like no fun at all eventho it was such a beautiful place.
Mother Nature can be fierce...glad you are OK again Bridgit.
Your drinks look very refreshing and your header is very colorful.
    Happy T Day to you

  12. Oh Bridget! That looks so painful! I haven't camped for years - don't think I ever will again , but used to love it! Happy T day!Chrisx

  13. OMGoodness! That looks just miserable! Yes, if the vitamins work I'd be taking multivitamins AND a vitamin B complex--forever! Cool drinks look inviting. Happy T-Day! :)

  14. OUCH! Those look miserable! Glad you got some relief and certainly hope the vitamins do keep you from getting eaten up again!

  15. I love camping...but not insect bites! hope you heal quickly and don't suffer too much more itching...sounds very uncomfortable!! hmmm vitamin B?! wonder if it works for mosquitoes?
