Tea for Tuesday

On this long Anzac weekend we went to the mainland for a Garden visit for ROGI, we visited Halcyon Cafe in Hamilton and we weren't disappointed by the menu.

I choose the croissant and smoked salmon for breakfast and M chose the rosti. I always have an English Breakfast tea and water. M had coffee and water and gobbled both up before breakfast arrived.

Breakfast at Tiffanys (nah its on the island and amazing) T for Tuesday

It's been a long time since I participated in T for Tuesday although I haven't stopped having tea.

Every Saturday or Sunday Hubby and I have a "Breakfast Date" at the local cafe Blue Parrot Cafe.

This breakfast was shared with a very good friend Kana after we attended a Pilates session. I had never done a Pilates session before. I had to google it to see what I was getting myself into.

I found out there were parts of my body that didn't want to turn or bend. It was so good to stretch it all out. I did get abit nauseous towards the end and the instructor explained that it is a way of letting out all those baddies in my body. I ended up with a headache a few hours later too.

I will definitely go back again, I will do it via you tube until I can attend the next in person session.

So this was what Kana and I went to after our Pilates, breakfast at our local Cafe. They always serve good food and the staff and owners are pleasant and very committed to providing good food and service.

We had scrambled egg on Turkish bread with tomato and avocado and spinach yum.

Come back on Wednesday to see my next craft room ready to rock n roll and churn out some crafty bits

Hope over to Bluebeard and Elizabeth to see what Teas are out there.

Tea for Tuesday - Pineapple Pie

There is a wonderful lady on the island Lusi who makes these wonderful island desserts. She made me one on the weekend called Pineapple Pie. I used to eat it in Fiji. Here is the recipe if you'd like to try it out. Here is the video.

I'm going to link up tomorrow with T for Tuesday, Bluebeard and Elizabeth she will be so surprised because the last time I linked up was May 2019 a loong time ago.

So abit of light reading about tea for you below:

I saw this on facebook under GREAT BRITISH TREA PARTY and loved it, especially the part about giving up sugar and the reasons, it made me think about how lucky we are to have so much at our finger tips and #Covid-19 has come to take us back to those days that our ancestors had to live on so little-we are definitely spoilt.

Mary Berry on Tea, pictured at home in Buckinghamshire - English food writer and television presenter.
"My mother was fussy about making tea. When we had guests, she would have two pots of leaf tea – one of Earl Grey and one Indian. If it was just family, it was a blend of Indian tea with a pinch of Earl Grey, which was dearer but we loved the flavour, so only a pinch. I like the idea of being quintessentially British and only drink tea in the afternoon. I have a cup of hot water when I wake up. Then I have coffee. In the afternoon I like weak Earl Grey with milk but no sugar – perfect. I find Earl Grey fresher than Indian tea. Just one cup is enough; I like it as a treat. It’s how I was brought up – nothing in excess, everything should be treated as something special."
Whenever my husband serves me tea or coffee he asks “Sugar?”, knowing full well that for the 50 years we’ve known each other I’ve answered “No thank you”. That’s because during the war my mother said: “If you give up sugar in tea and coffee, I’ll be able to make the odd cake, stale bread and margarine pudding, or rhubarb and crumble.”

T Tuesday R U OK

This is a cup I bought for a charity called R U OK.
In 2009, Gavin Larkin chose to champion just one question to honour his father and protect other families from the pain his endured.

The extraordinary story behind R U OK? was brought to life by Australian Story in 2011. In 2017, six years after they first aired the story of Gavin Larkin, they returned to his family to see how Gavin's extraordinary legacy has helped sustain them through their grief.

He started this as his graduation project called Landmark

I love this T2 tea maker. You brew the tea in it
Then you pop it on your cup and it drains away

You've got to know the capacity of your cup, as you can see its abit short, so I just top it up with water

Again our local cafe does lots of yummy dishes, this one is one of my favourites called Singapore Noodles, I like to eat it with a chilli and soy sauce that they make, I need to make some more of my own as I've now run out. that will be a hot affair and I have to cook it outside or risk choking myself on the chilli fumes

The same cafe serves Yum Cha on a Sunday andn for $15 its value for money, I certainly cant eat it all.

Tea for Tuesday - Beef Bourguignon

I wanted to show my friend that my glass cup washed in the dishwasher over and over again did not make it cloudy like hers did. We dont know why some dishwashers do that and some don't. Does yours?

Macleay Island has some awesome places to eat. Last week you saw what we ate at the Fish and Chips shop across the road from our house. This meal above was from the Boat Club, the meals are cooked by volunteers, the whole club is run by volunteers. Every Friday night is meal night. 1st Friday of the month is Fish and Chip night and its always packed to 100+ members and friends. All the other Fridays is only open to members. This meal above was Morrocan Beef, I didnt like it as the meat was tough but it was tasty.

Last week was Beef Bourguignon, I helped prepare but unfortunately I went away to craft camp so I wasn't able to eat the food i helped prepare. I did come home and make it myself yesterday and it was scrumptious. You can see the camp food that they made for us in future posts.

I used this recipe from Cafe Delites. This is the Julia Child's recipe she talks about

We have some wonderful talented artists on Macleay Island. We went to an opening of the Fired Earth 2019 Pottery Exhibition on Friday 22nd March 2019 and saw these wonderful creations.
I cant find the photos I took lol.

T for Tuesday

We went to see a movie on Sunday - Alita Battle Angel, a mixture of real actors and Anime and CGI.  I thoroughly enjoyed it. A woman was the hero.

We ate lunch at a Mexican restaurant right outside it. I loved the homemade chips and the dressing on the chips were to die for.

M had quesadillas, my drink was a mocktail as I dont drink liquor, just dont like the taste.

Tea for Tuesday

Well life has gotten away and I haven't posted tea for a while now since my birthday on Nov 8 - 2016

On Monday I was lucky to be a hair model for a friends daughter who is a hairdresser and needed a head for an exam. She did an awesome job and I got  to see a new part of town that I had never been to before. I got there 2 hours too early as hubby needed me to take him to work and I wasnt going to drive back home then drive back down again in peak hour.

The lovely newly opened and owned cafe that is thriving with business

Thats the hairdressers next door.
So I sat at the cafe next door and had breakfast and knitted a dish cloth while I waited. I have been busy knitting my heart away doing dishcloths. I have made 14 so far in January. Will showcase the dishcloths in another post as well as links to the patterns for those who like to knit.

Last year I started knitting these in October and gave them away for Christmas presents. They were a hit but I didn't have enough and couldn't knit fast enough. So this year I thought I'd get in early and start now to make them. I was only aiming for 1 a week and not to put myself under too much pressure. I surprised myself and tripled my count. I started a challenge over at Down To Earth and got everyone going.

February is also Lettermo month for those of you who have heard or participated before so these are posted in another post.

T for Tuesday and Southport Queensland

Well I've been long lost for T Tuesday, in fact May 2016, life has been really busy for me. I was busy with crafts and life in general. Aren't these photos so clear? Clearer than my ipad and iphone 6. I took it with the Iphone 7 and its awesome
So yesterday I drove an hour down south to Southport to get our car fixed and waited around for 5 hours until they called me. Arrived there at 6am because I didn't want to drive down with the mad rush at 7am. Sat at a cafe opposite the car dealership  and ordered this vegetarian meal-no i am not vegetarian and dont plan to be but its the only meal that comes with so much vegetables. Anyway this meal was HUGE. I only ate a fraction of it and had to put the rest into a container but it was so yummy. That sauce was amazing, it had cilantro and mint in it     .
Can you believe how little water they put into my cup? You couldnt even drown in it

I sat by the water for 5 hours waiting for my car and this is the view I had, across the water way was Seaworld, you can just see it in the horizon
A closeup of Seaworld. The white buildings to the left is the hotel Nara, would love to go there one day
I had to get up and walk and went past this wonderful garden bed and below was what i saw waiting at the crossing. They are beautifying the place for the Commonwealth games in 2018, cant wait to go back and see

Looking back from the sea behind me is the city view, not to many high rise like the Gold Coast or Surfers Paradise
They have made this lovely Rockpool area with water spouts and small water catchments for the little ones. It was fully today with parents and their children, was lovely to see.

Another view with this soft water park on the water. Was too early for anyone to play. More buildings looking toward Surfers Paradise.

T for Tuesday yummy Soup and Mango Pickle

This soup started off as pork bone soup with carrot, corn, cabbage ginger until I went to eat it then I realised I had forgotten to season it. So the version below has Laksa cup a soup added for flavour, it was the best.

So it's mango season here in Queensland. I love summer only for the abundance of exotic fruits we can get here. So I sunned it out but had to cover it from the birds and insects
Then I mixed it with toasted garlic and pickle spices from a packet, easiest and yummiest. I just googled mango pickle as I would like to make it from scratch and found this RECIPE

Bottled and ready for sunning for a few weeks to preserve it
