Postcrossing Meetup Macleay Island 27 April 2019

I organise a Postcrossing Meetup today on Macleay Island Waters Edge Restaurant
that is situated at the Bowls Club.

We had a great time. 11 in all attended, a great turn out to say the least.

They all arrived by ferry, well except 2 who had trouble finding parking on the mainland and missed the designated 10.30 ferry that the others caught, no hard feelings they managed to catch the island's SMBI Little Bus. The courtesy bus from the Bowls Club picked everyone up and delivered them to the restaurant.

It started at 11am and ended 3 hours later. Everyone enjoyed their meals, at least I think so as no one complained.

We signed 1070 postcards, kudos to those that didn't have stamps and had to write on every card. Here are some wonderful exercises for your fingers for the next meetup.

Our story will be featured in the Friendly Bay Islander June Edition

Table all set up ready to go

Busy, busy, busy writing and stamping their Postcrossing ID's onto postcards

Street Libraries - The Hulk

It's gorgeous that this kid came dressed to its namesake library, THE HULK, kids are gorgeous. I can't wait for my Street Library to start up.

I need your help in naming my street library, here are some things to think of in naming:

  • I live on an island
  • Our house is brown wood with a green roof
  • I believe the library will be made in the same colours as the house
Now my brain has stopped working.

The other two existing libraries on the island are named REVAMPS and ROBBIE's. and another link to ROBBIE's

I don't mind zany names

Weekly reading - DIY campervan, Little Street Libraries

I love this detailed DIY of a conversion of a van to a camper van

We go on walks every Thursday night with the local Bay Islands Hash House Harriers, it was pretty scary to see the bushfire on Macleay Island Christmas 2016 and what damage it did, not too far from our  house.

Street Libraries around Brisbane

What a great idea this is that has been done in the US. I live in a hot climate so it would not work here. We'd have to give out frozen water bottles.

I saw the original teapot tree when we went to look for a house to buy, the house was very artistic but not suited to us, I fell in love with the teapot tree though. I want one of my own LOL. Madeleine Ekeblad was the originator of the teapot tree on Macleay Island. HERE are some of her works of art

WOYWW 513 - Craft Camp Brookfield QLD

A new Workdesk for me this week.

As I mentioned last week I went to a Craft Camp, this is a yearly event. I have missed the last two years as we moved house and I had to get my act into gear this year to start crafting again.

So this was my desk, I loved how we all got a table each, everyone was piled high with their walls of stuff. I had to spread mine out so it looked like I was there to craft. I think this was day 2, those gingham thingys are the kusudamu flowers I was making. I never got to use the Stampinup Pens. Only ate one piece of chocolate. They fed us too well.

It was quite humid so thats what the green fan was. We had aircondition and ceiling fans but it just didnt come my way. My ipad sitting beside the chocolate was used to google something I needed to know. We were swapping ideas

This photo was of all 5 desks, we all shared the same 3 roomed apartment

I tried to roll what I thought was gingham paper from SU but it was card stock and made it hard to roll so I turned them into flowers instead.

I also managed to knit two mini stockings for the Soldiers programme I am coordinating this year via the Lions Club. Each took about 20 mins but with chatting and everything else it took me a few hours to do one hahahha.

And now to the food, oh my they never fail us and give us so much sustenance, I had to stop eating morning and afternoon tea. Brerakfast was 7am, morning tea 10.30am, lunch 12.30, afternoon tea 3.30, dinner 7pm, supper anytime after that.

This is the dining hall, its bigger than this to the right with another room off to the right.

Dinner Friday night was honey chicken and beef in black bean sauce....and guess what!!! My lovely hubby said I could go there again in August to another craft camp run by another group I belong to

WOOOHOOO I love craft camps

Now hop on over to Julia Dunnit's Stamping Ground to see more desks

Tea for Tuesday - Beef Bourguignon

I wanted to show my friend that my glass cup washed in the dishwasher over and over again did not make it cloudy like hers did. We dont know why some dishwashers do that and some don't. Does yours?

Macleay Island has some awesome places to eat. Last week you saw what we ate at the Fish and Chips shop across the road from our house. This meal above was from the Boat Club, the meals are cooked by volunteers, the whole club is run by volunteers. Every Friday night is meal night. 1st Friday of the month is Fish and Chip night and its always packed to 100+ members and friends. All the other Fridays is only open to members. This meal above was Morrocan Beef, I didnt like it as the meat was tough but it was tasty.

Last week was Beef Bourguignon, I helped prepare but unfortunately I went away to craft camp so I wasn't able to eat the food i helped prepare. I did come home and make it myself yesterday and it was scrumptious. You can see the camp food that they made for us in future posts.

I used this recipe from Cafe Delites. This is the Julia Child's recipe she talks about

We have some wonderful talented artists on Macleay Island. We went to an opening of the Fired Earth 2019 Pottery Exhibition on Friday 22nd March 2019 and saw these wonderful creations.
I cant find the photos I took lol.
