Just Wondering

So I came across this meme and thought I'd check it out and participate. In Queensland we've gone into a hard 3 day lockdown because a traveller brought back the UK variant of covid which is 70% more transmittable and is airborne.

So of course I am online more and looking at all the links I haven't had time to read today. This one took my fancy.

Just Wondering

1.   When was the last time you tried something new?: I am always trying something new. 

Last weekend we bought a new design professional worm farm from what we currently have, you can see it HERE. I like the new design and a week on so far it is working well.I put in about 4 inches of coir and the worms have just processed them in a week and made worm castings.

2.   Who in your family do you compare yourself to?

No one really, I'm very unique LOL

3.   What lesson in life did you learn the hard way?

I had to grow myself as I was told so everything I did good or bad I learnt the hard way:

4.   What can you do today that you weren't able to do before?

I am learning very slowly how to be a good gardener.

On the weekend I installed a new worm farm from Bunnings  cost about $84 which we expected but has been manufactured properly. I am excited to see this but it will take about 3 months for the worms to eat through the coconut coir I put in as their bedding which they eat.

My worms are spoilt, on the weekend i crushed up beetroot, carrot for them, as they don't have teeth it takes them time to eat so if its crushed up its easier for them to eat

 

crushed egg shells they love as well, I also put this in my garden to prevent pests

I separated worms from worm casting as well, ready to add to my garden beds and pot plants

 

The left one is my first worm farm, its huge. 2nd one on a stand is smaller and was the most successful until I did something and it doesnt produce worm wee lately. 

The newest one is on the right.

I have since learnt that you flush 5 litres of water every week to flush out the worms and make wee, who knew that hahaha. so I have instant 5 litres of worm wee just like that. I read that the worms don't drown when you do that because the water drains away quickly - thank goodness for that

Winter Photo Scavenger Hunt

Here are my first photos for the Winter Photo Challenge (strange for me to write Winter when we are sweltering in heat lol).

A set of three - funny story to this. I ate some Chiffon cake at a friends house. I have always wanted to make one of these cakes but was overwhelmed by the process. Well I hunted all over town one weekend and could not find a chiffon cake tin - seems like no one makes these any more.

My friend found she had too many of these tins which she got overseas, her sister had one that she never used and hubby ordered one for me online, all three arrived on the same day lol

I installed this new worm farm on the weekend, its a work in progress, I hope this one will give me more worm wee than I have ever not gotten out of my other worm farms. This one is very well made with a proper draining hole and smaller holes to keep out the bugs.
